This event is made possible by the Zing Go The Strings project of Town Hall Seattle, with funding from the Boeing Company, and presented in partnership with the City of Edmonds Arts Commission, Tourism Promotion Fund.
Zing Go the Strings was created by Town Hall Seattle and features local artists who are wokring to preserve and share performing arts from their native cultures. This performance brings to ECA tremendous local performers Carmona Flamenco and Correo Aereo, presenting the flavor of Latin America. Correo Aereo (Air Mail) is an award winning World Music Duo performing traditional and original music of Latin America; primarily of Venezuela, Mexico and Argentina. Together, Abel Rocha and Madeleine Sosin combine an array of string and percussive instruments with silken vocal harmonies described as “locked in carnal embrace” (Austin Chronicle). Abel plays harp, guitar, cuatro, quinta huapanguera and vocals. Madeleine plays violin, maracas, bombo, jarana and vocals. Their music is polyrhythmic and melodic; fiery, haunting, joyful. For this performance, Correo Aereo will be joined by Evan Flory Barnes on stand-up bass. The award-winning Carmona Flamenco has made extensive concert, festival, and cabaret appearances throughout Spain and the United States. Often performing with guest artists, Marcos and Rubina Carmona's Carmona Flamenco specializes in contemporary and tradtional flamenco music, dance, and song. The Carmonas have appeared in Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia, Alicante, and Huelva, as well as San Francisco, New York, Vancouver, B.C., Portland, Tampa, and Los Angeles. Currently based in Seattle, Washington, Carmona Flamenco has become one of the Pacific Northwest's premier performance groups.
